First Woman on FBI’s Most Wanted Terrorists List

Date:

Joanne Chesimard, a member of the extremist group Black Liberation Army, is the first woman placed on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists. She was convicted in 1977 of killing a New Jersey state trooper.

The United States’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has added Chesimard to its most wanted terrorists list and the reward for information leading to her capture was doubled to USD 2 million.

The fugitive black militant had escaped from prison in Clinton, New Jersey, in 1979. She is now believed to stay in Cuba. However, there was no threat from her. She is now considered as domestic terrorist.

Chesimard was convicted of murder of Trooper Werner Foerster on May 2, 1973. She along with her associates had opened fire on the troopers. One of them was wounded and another was killed. She had fled the scene, but was arrested later. She is also most wanted for several crimes including bank robbery. She was found guilty and was sentenced to life in prison.
