Three terrorists were killed on Wednesday in a gunfight with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Jammu district. The three terrorists were killed in the encounter, which broke out in the Sidhra area of Jammu district.
Officials said the three heavily-armed militants were apprehended near Tawi Bridge while travelling in a truck to Kashmir. Police said the militants were heavily armed and when the truck they were travelling in were intercepted for checking, they fled.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the vehicle and stopped the movement of vehicular traffic on that stretch of the highway. During the exchange of fire, the militants were killed and the vehicle caught fire.
Sources said, the slain may have been part of a terrorist group, who were on a mission to carry out a suicide attack in and around Jammu city.
The gunfight between terrorists and security forces began in Jammu’s Sidhra district, a day after a major terror attack in J&K’s Udhampur district was averted. A major terror attack plan was thwarted, according to police officials, when a cylindrical-shaped IED, 300-400 grammes of RDX, seven 7.62 mm cartridges, and five detonators were discovered in the Basantgarh area.
Police also apprehended a suspect and recovered a coded sheet and letter pad page from the terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
