Indian Red Cross Society-Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB) Youth Red Cross has organised two-days camp for Girl Volunteers for the first time in the state of Odisha, which begins on 20th December, 2013 at Red Cross Bhavan, Jawaharlal Nehru Marg, Unit-IX, Bhubaneswar.
This camp has been organised to explore the ways and means to ignite confidence which will lead to build up assertiveness among Youth Red Cross girls Volunteers and young women. In this Training Camp, more than 150 Youth Red Cross Girl Volunteers from different Districts of Odisha have participated.
During the camp period, the volunteers will get trainings on various topics like History of Red Cross Movement, Fundamental Principles of Red Cross, First Aid, Voluntary Blood Donation, Road Safety and Yoga. Besides, various Cultural Programmes will be held during the camp to harness the potentiality of the Youth Red Cross Girl Volunteers.
The Training Camp was inaugurated by Shri D. P. Behera, IAS, Additional Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha by Hoisting the Red Cross Flag and lighting the Lamp and offering flowers to the portrait of Jean Henry Dunant, the founder of Red Cross along with Dr. Mangala Prasad Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB).
In his address, Mr. Behera has encouraged the YRC girl Volunteers and said that the Department of Higher Education has also taken steps for women empowerment by imparting self- defence training to 250 master trainers.
Dr. Mangala Prasad Mohanty, Honorary Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Odisha State Branch(IRCS-OSB) and Secretary, Youth Red Cross extended a warm welcome to all the guests and participants and highlighted on the activities of Youth Red Cross in the State.
Dr. Mohanty asserted the words of Mahatma Gandhi who said that Women are superior they have greater intuition, more self–scarify on have greater powers of endurance, and have greater courage; without her man could not exist. He also inspired the girl volunteers not to wait for Santa Clause, but to be the source of be the hope and happiness in the society.
