TNI Bureau: It may sound absurd and odd, but the Odisha Government and Police Department may have heaved a sigh of relief, as Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team failed to qualify for the Super Six stage. They lost all three matches in their group. With no Super Six matches, Pakistan will play just one play-off match to determine the 7-8 position in the Women’s World Cup on February 7.
As South Africa and Pakistan had lost both their matches in the Women’s World Cup, today’s match was a do-or-die for both teams. South Africa won the toss and elected to bat at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack. Marizanne Kapp’s 102 helped South Africa post 207/5 in 50 overs. Dane van Niekerk scored an unbeaten 55. For Pakistan, Qanita Jalil and Asmavia Iqbal took two wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 208, Pakistan bowled out for a paltry 81 in 29.4 overs and lost the match by 126 runs. Marizanne Kapp took three wickets, while Shabnim Ismail, Susan Benade and Marcia Letsoalo took two wickets each. Marizanne Kapp was declared ‘Woman of the Match’.
