Communication to the hills was snapped on October 12 when Cyclone Hudhud struck the district. The only road between Nuagada and R. Udayagiri was blocked by mud and huge rocks after the landslide. Motorbike movement is not possible in the area, according to Nuagada BDO Dasarathi Surabu.
The District Administration has sent a team to the affected area in Putupadal gram panchayat in Nuagada block, which is located at about 50 km from the block headquarter. The medical team is ready to help the tribals in need.
“The successive governments have failed to construct the culvert during the past 50 years, which led to the present situation. The Special Relief Commissioner had announced that people will be evacuated from Malkangiri, Bonda hills and Mohana hills during the cyclone, but the situation remains different on the ground, which led to the loss of lives of poor tribal people, alleged senior BJP leader Antarajami Gomango.
