In the second match of the ICC Champions Trophy, West Indies scored a nail-biting two-wicket victory over Pakistan to start their campaign on a positive note. The match at Oval, turned out to be a low-scoring one with both teams struggling to score even 170+.
West Indies won the toss and elected to field first. Pakistan could manage just 170 in 48 overs. Nasir Jamshed scored 50, while Misbah-ul-Haq remained unbeaten on 96. None other batsmen reached the double-digit score. For West Indies, Kemar Roach and Sunil Narine took three wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 171, West Indies too lost wickets at regular intervals and no batsman could score big. Still, they managed to reach 172/8 in 40.4 overs and won the match by two wickets. Gayle (39), Samuels (30) and Pollard (30) were the top contributors. Mohammad Irfan took three wickets, while Saeed Ajmal and Wahab Riaz took two wickets each. Roach was declared ‘Man of the Match’.
