TNI Bureau: The BJP slammed the government after a hidden thing was revealed today on the 2G spectrum probe that questioned the Comptroller Auditor General (CAG)’s role, which allegedly forced the auditor RP Singh to sign the report that shows the loss figure of Rs 1.76 lakh crore in the massive scam.
After it came to light, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman Murli Manohar Joshi sought a probe into the allegations against the CAG over its report, which was tabled in Parliament in November 2010 showing the loss from the spectrum allocation was between Rs 57,666 crore and Rs 1.76 lakh crore.
RP Singh, who retired in September 2011, said that he was forced by his seniors in CAG to sign the 2G spectrum report. He revealed that the CAG officials had even helped senior BJP leader and chief of the PAC Joshi in preparing the controversial report, which indicted Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, finnace minister P Chidambaram and other officials. He directly claimed that Joshi had influenced CAG report on 2G.
He alleged that Joshi was appointed as the PAC chief in 2010, two years after the committee began probing into the 2G scam. The report was tabled in Parliament on November 16, 2010. It can be noted that majority of the PAC members had rejected the report when Joshi submitted it in Lok Sabha without taking their signatures on April 30, 2011.
Singh said that the report was not prepared by him. He had prepared a report that shows a loss figure of Rs 2,645 crore.
Reacting to the issue, Congress did not make delay to attack the opposition. Congress President Sonia Gandhi said that BJP’s stand was finally exposed on 2G.
