Wal-Mart Lobbying Row rocks Parliament

TNI Bureau: The UPA government finally agreed to probe into Walmart lobbying report after the deadlock over the issue continued in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for the second consecutive day on Tuesday.

The Opposition BJP has been demanding an independent inquiry into this after reports of global retail giant Walmart lobbying US lawmakers to get into India. The party alleged that Walmart has bribed people in India.

After the members of the BJP created ruckus in the lower House Lok Sabha demanding probe into the issue, Speaker Meira Kumar adjourned the House for one hour. After the House started, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha raised the issue demanding a judicial probe following which the house was again adjourned till 2 PM.

Even there was uproar in the Rajya Sabha over the report. First, the Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 12 noon following the uproar over the Walmart report. The BJP disrupted the proceedings of the House demanding the suspension of the Question Hour in the House. Kamal Nath said the government is ready for a probe but not decided on the modalities.
