Earlier, Sri Lanka had posted 286/8 in 50 overs. Apart from Mathews, Dilshan (35), Jayawardene (32) and Thirimanne (52) too contributed to the total. For India, Dhawal Kulkarni took three wickets, while Akshar Patel and R Ashwin took two wickets each.
Chasing a victory target of 287, India lost Rahane and Rohit with just 14 runs on board. Kohli and Rayudu added 136 runs for the third wicket to set the course of the game. Rayudu was unlucky to get run out at 59 after a mix-up with Kohli. Uthappa (19) ad Kedar Jadhav (20) did their bit. Akshar Patel remained unbeaten on 17.
Kohli, who hit his 21st ODI hundred, remained unbeaten 139* off 126 balls with 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. India reached 288/7 in 48.4 overs to win the match by three wickets and clinched the series 5-0. For Sri Lanka, Ajantha Mendis took four wickets, while Mathews took two wickets. Angelo Mathews was declared ‘Man of the Match’ for his all-round performance.
