The incessant rains, landslides and cloudbursts have taken a heavy toll on Uttarakhand. The holy Kedarnath was worst hit. The markets, dharmasalas and other facilities across Kedarnath have been swept away by the flood waters. The death toll in Uttarakhand has reached 131. 50 of them are from Kedarnath.
Yesterday, 3 policemen and 2 ITBP personnel died while trying to rescue the stranded people. At least 12 additional teams of the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) were dispatched to Uttarakhand to join the Army, ITBP and BSF personnel in the rescue and relief operations. In Himachal Pradesh too, 28 people died due to heavy rains and landslide.
The route to Badrinath was cut off. Kedarnath, Gauri Kund and Uttar Kashi witnessed the maximum damage. Roads, bridges, hundreds of houses and building, over 500 vehicles were swept away by the massive flood water. The Uttarakhand Government is closely monitoring the situation. Many stranded tourists are said to be without food and water.
