TNI Bureau: Even though the UK tried to inch closer to Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, 25 American lawmakers have urged the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to continue denying visa to the BJP leader.
The lawmakers said that despite Modi’s political ambitions to reach the top, he cannot be given a clean chit in the 2002 riots case, as his government always obstructed further investigations and denied justice to the victims.
Republican Congressman Joe Pitts and Frank Wolf took the lead to write the letter to Hillary Clinton on November 29. They also received the support of others. John Conyers, Trent Franks, James Moran, Michael Honda, Bill Pascrell, Barbara Lee, Edward Markey, Jim Jordan, Dan Burton, Michael Capuano and Dough Lamborn also signed the letter.
The lawmakers expressed apprehensions that in a bid to strengthen his candidature for Prime Ministership, Modi may try to approach the US to get the endorsement.”We respectfully request that the US government deny Mr Modi entry due to numerous reports of his involvement in horrific human rights violations in India,” the lawmakers said.
