New Delhi: The members of AIADMK took on the UPA government on Wednesday for showing least attention to the burning issue of war crimes committed against Tamils in Sri Lanka. The Left parties also backed AIADMK during a debate in Rajya Sabha.
However, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that the government was committed to bring justice to Tamils in Sri Lanka. He made it clear that the government raised the issue with its neighbouring country Sri Lanka in each meeting held in the recent past.
It was a noisy scene in Rajya Sabha while Khurshid told the House about the relationship with Sri Lanka after war against LTTE in 2009. AIADMK’s V Maitreyan accused the government of not doing anything for Tamils living in Sri Lanka.
CPI leader D Raja slammed the government for providing assistance to Sri Lanka after the war against Tamils. The issue rocked the parliament after the pictures of LTTTE chief Prabhakaran’s son published in several media. The images raised serious questions about Lankan troops’ operation against Tamil rebels during the war in 2009.
The photographs claimed that the 12-year-old Balachandran Prabhakaran was executed in cold blood by the Sr Lankan troops. Initially, he was given food and later he was shot five times in the chest.
