TNI Bureau: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh died at the age of 67 at the Global Hospital in Chennai. Deshmukh was suffering from a severe liver ailment.
The doctors were trying to carry out a liver transplant on him by harvesting the liver from a brain dead donor, but that driver died last night before the doctors could operate on him.
Vilasrao Deshmukh was admitted to Global Hospital in Chennai on August 6. He was brought to Chennai from Mumbai on an air ambulance. The Parliament was adjourned in his honour. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, President Pranab Mukherjee, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, BJP veteran LK Advani and other leaders have condoled his death.
Vilasrao Deshmukh will be given a state funeral tomorrow at his native place Babhalgaon in Latur district.
