The Karkardooma court in Delhi has passed a historic verdict by rejecting the CBI’s closure report and ordering a fresh probe into former Union Minister Jagdish Tytler’s role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The court also disapproved the clean chit given by the CBI to Tytler in 2007 and 2009.
At least 3,000 Sikhs were killed in the 1984 riots that were triggered after the assassination of former PM Indira Gandhi by her two Sikh bodyguards on October 31, 1984. Tytler was accused of leading a mob, which went on a rampage and killed the Sikhs.
