Tripura – First State in North East to get IIIT

TNI Bureau: In the way of development in education and information & technology, Tripura will be the first state in North East region to get an Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT).

Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty confirmed the report on Friday. During his visit to Delhi, Union HRD and Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal informed him that Tripura is the first state in North East region of India where an IIIT will be set up.

The Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to set up 20 more IIITs in different parts of the country of which 5 would be set up in the first phase.

The IIIT in Tripura would be set up in the Public-Private partnership (PPP) model. The central government will bear 57.5 per cent, the state government will contribute 35 per cent and rest of money would be given by a private entrepreneur.

Currently, there are 5 IIITs in India such as IIIT Allahabad, IIITM Gwalior, IIITDM Jabalpur, IIITDM Kanchipuram, and IIIT Tiruchirapalli.
