Allegations against the Khandapada SDPO have raised serious concerns about misuse of power. When people go to the police for help, they expect safety and support, not fear or pressure.
A woman from Nayagarh district has alleged that when she approached the officer seeking help in a case, she was instead subjected to inappropriate messages and coercive behaviour. The complaint claims the officer invited her to meet at hotels and even threatened to implicate her husband in false cases if she did not comply.
The officer has denied the charges, but the matter is serious and needs a quick and fair inquiry in view of the viral audio clip. This case shows a bigger problem – too much unchecked power at the local level.
People’s trust in the police depends on honesty and accountability. If that trust is broken, the system weakens. The government must act carefully, find the truth, and ensure that power is used responsibly and within the law.
