Things to Know about LPG Portability

Date:

TNI Bureau: The massive protests might have been seen in India against the Centre’s decision over the cap on subsidised cylinders, the web-based LPG connection portability has been launched in Chandigarh. The cooking gas might be now costly, but the recent service is a significant development, which aims to provide easy distribution of the LPG cylinders to the consumers.

The service was launched by Indian Oil Corporation on Friday. The launch came days after the Prime Minister hinted at the fuel, kerosene and LPG price hike as part of economic reforms.

The fuel price hike might put an additional burden on the consumers, but the recent service will bring a partial relief for them while getting the cylinders without any hassles.

The LPG connection portability service will provide a wide range of distributors from where the consumers can get cylinders and other LPG services.
It also means that any consumer wants to change the service provider, can log on to the company’s websites and chose the distributors. After registering into the site, the consumer will receive an e-mail. The consumer can withdraw the confirming request sent at the e-mail ID within 72 hours. Later, the distributor will transfer the connection and it will be uploaded on the website. After completing the formalities, the consumer will get the cylinders from the new distributor.

The distributors will be available online. Their ranking will be decided on the basis of the number of days they take to provide the service to the consumers effectively.

A customer service cell will be set up where an officer will be appointed to reply the queries and solve the problems related to LPG distribution. In order to make the service more convenient for the consumers, the Indian Oil Corporation has launched a mobile application for Android and iPhone users, who will have to follow the same process to switch over the distributor following the registration process online.
