Taliban stormed Pakistan by launching a major attack on a prison in northwestern town of Dera Ismail Khan and freed more than 300 militants late on Monday. Several prisoners, four security personnel and two militants were killed in the attack.
According to several news channels, around 50 to 60 militants attacked the jail with bombs and guns to enter the premises. They used 60 bombs inside the detention facility that caused the collapse of prison wall. The assailants managed to free more than 350 prisoners. The militants also blew up two electricity transformers that created complete darkness inside the jail.
After the bombings, the gun fight between the militants and security personnel continued for hours. However, police could not control the situation and the military rushed to the jail.
The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed the responsibility of the attack, saying that around 150 militants including a squad of suicide bombers were appointed aiming to free the prisoners.
