The political drama in Maharashtra comes to an end with the resignation of CM Devendra Fadnavis & Deputy CM Ajit Pawar. But, it resulted in huge loss of face for BJP and its supporters.

The BJP, albeit inadvertently, made Sharad Pawar look very strong and gave him the tag of “Chanakya of Maharashtra Politics”. An “opportunistic alliance” looks credible in public view.

While Sharad Pawar outwitted the entire Central BJP leadership that was deeply involved in Maharashtra politics, wrong moves of BJP gave the “dying” Congress a new lease of life. The Opposition got a chance to get united again.

The political crisis in Maharashtra continues. Shiv Sena, which has betrayed the mandate, is trying to grab power with the help of its long-time rivals. Not to be left behind, BJP has embraced scam-tainted Ajit Pawar.

Whether directly or indirectly, Ajit Pawar remained the beneficiary when 9 cases related to the Rs 70,000 crore irrigation scam, were conditionally closed today. Timing was enough to raise eyebrows.

Firefighting and damage control notwithstanding, a wrong message was sent to public. Let’s see how BJP handles this perception battle. Whoever wins the race, people of Maharashtra may end up on the losing side.

It was Shiv Sena that erred at the first place. They preferred to bite more than they could chew. The logic that Shiv Sena supported Congress on some issues in the past does not hold water.

While Bala Saheb Thackerary’s party was sinking every passing day, Ajit Pawar did a big favour to the Sena by saving them from a near extinction in the event of going with Congress.

Crude Distillation UnitThe new state of the art Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) of Bharat Petroleum’s Mumbai Refinery was dedicated to the nation today by Shri Devendra Fadnavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum and Natural Gas at the Mumbai Refinery.

The unit with a capacity of 6.0 MMTPA at a cost of Rs. 1419 Crores is a replacement of old Crude and Vacuum units of the refinery. Also present on the occasion were Members of Parliament Shri Arvind Sawant, Shri Rahul Shewale, Shri Gopal Shetty and MLA from Chembur, Shri Prakash Phaterpekar.

This Refinery of BPCL was commissioned in 1955 by Burmah Shell Refineries Ltd. with a capacity of 2.2 MMTPA. Post-nationalization in 1976, the refinery has progressively expanded through low cost revamps and adoption of new technologies. Currently, it has an installed capacity of 12.0 MMTPA with three Crude & Vacuum Distillation units with matching secondary processing and treatment facilities.

The commissioning of this new CDU would ensure cleaner environment and efficient use of energy with lower emissions and reduction in energy consumption. The Sulphur dioxide emission from this new unit would be less than 10.5 mt/d – the lowest in the country amongst all the refineries.

Tightly heat integrated with furnaces of higher efficiency, the reduction in energy consumption in terms of Liquid Fuel Equivalent (LFE) is expected to be about 30 % which results into estimated savings of Rs. 128 Crores per annum on fuel consumption.

The integral part of this new CDU is its superior design and safety features. This has resulted in significantly lesser number of equipments as compared to older units and facilitates better turnaround management during shutdown and routine maintenance. The unit is designed with the latest safety features like blast-proof control room and closed drainage system, thus making it an efficient, intrinsically safe and sustainable unit, with higher distillate yield of 3% and thus contributing to higher Refining margins.

Looking ahead, the stabilization of this unit would help in dismantling the old 1955 CDU units, thereby creating space for refinery modernization to meet future auto fuel norms and other profitability enhancing projects.

Speaking on the occasion the Minister Shri Pradhan announced the plan of setting up of a new refinery in Maharashtra. Chief Minister, Maharashtra assured to provide land and other facilities for the proposed new Refinery.

Devendra FadnavisAs expected, the BJP Government in Maharashtra led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis (44) won the trust vote on the floor of the Assembly by a voice vote. Shiv Sena, which opposed the trust vote, was left stranded and isolated, as newly-elected Speaker Haribhau Bagde gave the verdict in BJP’s favour.

The NCP MLAs did not act and remained silent during the trust vote. They neither supported nor opposed, marking their abstention. The Shiv Sena MLAs shouted against the government, but their voice was drowned in the joy and celebration of BJP MLAs. The Congress too opposed the trust vote. Apart from 121 MLAs, the BJP also secured support of seven Independent MLAs, MNS and some other smaller outfits. The Shiv Sena has decided to sit in the Opposition following the latest development.

Earlier, BJP leader Haribhau Bagde was elected as the Speaker of Maharashtra Assembly unopposed after Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Avti and Congress candidate Varsha Gaikwad pulled out of the race.

gadkariAmidst the talks among different political parties to form the new government and who will be the next chief minister in Maharashtra, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari flexed his muscles by meeting as many as 40 newly-elected BJP MLAs in Nagpur on Tuesday.

The former BJP chief also said that he is ready to accept any responsibility given to him by the party’s central leadership.

“However, I have already clarified my stand not to return to state politics. It’s for the party’s central leadership to decide and I will accept any responsibility given to me,” said Gadkari.

In an interesting development, Nagpur-East MLA Krishna Khopde today offered to quit and vacate his seat to pave way for his mentor Nitin Gadkari for the post of Chief Minister.

However, sources in the party told that Devendra Fadnavis remains the front-runner for the chief minister’s post.
Fadnavis emerged as the frontrunner for the chief minister’s post after overcoming possible challenges from other party veterans like Eknath Khadse and Vinod Tawde. But now he may have to deal with Gadkari’s potential challenge as well.

Both Fadnavis and Gadkari are from Nagpur and both enjoy the confidence of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Probably the RSS has to take the crucial decision to form the new government and who will be the next Chief Minister in Maharashtra.
