Just less than day after the Congress-led announced the creation of a separate Telangana state, BSP supremo Mayawati has backed the decision and sought the division of Uttar Pradesh into four parts to improve the socio-economic condition of the people.

BSP-SymbolMayawati slammed the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh, accusing him of failure in giving safety and security of common people. She believes that once Uttar Pradesh is divided into four states, the governance will be easier and smoother. Mayawati also sought separate statehood status for Vidarbha and Gorkhaland.

The former Uttar Pradesh CM, who considers herself as the ‘Mesiah of Dalits’, has further added that the four new states should be Uttar Pradesh, Purvanchal, Bundelkhand and Harit Pradesh. It would be interesting to see whether the Congress, BJP and Samajwadi Party would suppose an idea to divide Uttar Pradesh into four parts.

Days after he came out in support of Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, saying the latter’s “puppy’ remark was misinterpreted, Hamirpur MP Vijay Bahadur Singh was expelled from the BSP on charges of going against the party’s “philosophy and principles”.

BSP-SymbolSingh, a first-time MP, has been denied ticket for the next Lok Sabha elections. It is strongly believed that he would be inducted into BJP soon and contest the next general elections on the saffron party’s ticket.

Earlier, Vijay Bahadur had termed Modi as a sensitive and compassionate person and said he never referred to any community in his “puppy” remark. Modi was misinterpreted, Singh claimed much to the annoyance and disbelief of BSP supremo Mayawati and other leaders of the party. He had also called Modi’s opponents as “rashtra drohis” or anti-nationals.

In a desperate bid to repeat her “social engineering” formula of 2007, which helped her to grab power in Uttar Pradesh with a massive mandate, BSP supremo Mayawati is back with a strategy to woo the upper caste and Brahmins.

While releasing the list of 36 candidates for 2014 Lok Sabha polls, Mayawati accommodated 18 Brahmin candidates as part of her new strategy. Maya alleged that the Brahmins are at the receiving end during the Samajwadi Party rule in Uttar Pradesh.

Mayawati has entrusted her party’s senior leader Satish Mishra with the task of winning the trust of Brahmins and bringing them back into the BSP fold, thus making a dent in the vote bank of the BJP and Congress.

Nagpur: It could be Mayawati’s political compulsions to side with the Congress at centre at various instances, but the BSP supremo has no sympathy for the party. That was evident on February 17, when Mayawati asked his party cadres to strive hard and throw the Congress government out of power at the Centre and in Maharashtra.

Maya made her political ambitions clear at the massive rally at Kasturchand Park in Nagpur when she urged her supporters to work towards the goal of reaching the ramparts of real Red Fort instead of making replicas. Mayawati’s comment came in the wake of the Rs 20 lakh stage built for her, which was just a replica of the historic Red Fort in Delhi.

Maya said that Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is the only party, which is not dependent on corporate support. “We fight polls with the money donated by common BSP workers. We don’t survive on the money begged from big corporate houses, which other major political parties so. We need to win maximum seats in Uttar Pradesh so that we control the power corridor in Delhi,” she said.

Maya came hard on the Congress at Centre and in Maharashtra, accusing the party of oppressing the Dalits. She also held it responsible for the situation of uncertainty created over the SC/ST Promotion Bill.

TNI Bureau: Samajwadi Party members walked out of the House protesting the quota bill after the MoS PMO V Narayanasamy on Thursday introduced the bill in Rajya Sabha that would provide reservation to SCs/STs in government job promotions.

Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley addressed the House over the proposed quota bill. Soon after the introduction of the bill, there was a huge uproar over the bill.

The SP members have been opposing the bill and creating ruckus over past three days. The BSP chief Mayawati, who had talked tough against Chairman Hamid Ansari on Wednesday, backed the bill saying, the SCs and STs need promotions in government jobs. She also said that she was always in favour of giving reservation to people those are from upper caste but economically weak.

The voting on promotion quota bill is likely to take place on Monday.

TNI Bureau: Parliament witnessed a huge uproar in Rajya Sabha after promotion quota bill was introduced. The SP strongly objected the bill that provides reservation to SCs/STs in government job promotions. The house was adjourned repeatedly as the members of SP shouted slogans against the bill.

When the house began, the same drama was seen and BJP started raising voice against the Wal-Mart lobbying issue.

Despite Deputy Chairman P J Kurien’s appeal not to disrupt the proceedings of the House, the SP members along with BJP created ruckus over the promotion quota bill and Walmart report. The SP members climbed into the well and started slogans against the bill.

However,¬† the BSP opposed SP’s objection in supporting the bill. It said that bill should be passed and it will bring benefits to the neglected section of the society.

TNI Bureau: After the walkout of Samajwadi Party and open support of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the UPA government had no difficulties in winning the FDI battle in Rajya Sabha. They had already won the debate on FDI in Retail earlier.

Mayawati and Mulayam came to the rescue of the government in both Houses. In Lok Sabha, both SP and BSP had walked out, helping the government in getting 253 votes as against Opposition’s 218.

In Rajya Sabha, the government got 123 votes, while the BJP-led Opposition managed to get 102 votes. Had Mulayam and Maya who opposed the FDI in Retain in principle, had voted against the government, it would not have been carried out at all.

Editorial Desk: The BJP was aiming at putting the government in a tight spot by pressing for a vote on FDI in Retail in Parliament. But the strategy back-fired, as the new Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath managed the floor effectively and ensured that the government doe not land in any embarrassing situation.

There is little doubt that the Congress failed to play the communal card to keep the BJP isolated, as parties like CPI, CPM, Trinamool Congress, BJD, TDP and many others voted in favour of the BJP-sponsored motion on the floor of Lok Sabha. They did not buy the Congress argument of not voting with the BJP.

However, without bothering for any consequences, Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party and Maywati’s BSP came to the rescue of the government. The BJP and Lefft may call it opportunism or CBI pressure, but the Congress had the last laugh. Mayawati was more vocal, as she abstained in Lok Sabha, but decided vote for the government in Rajya Sabha.

Samajwadi Party¬† abstained in Lok Sabha and would do the same in Rajya Sabha. That’s what the Congress wanted. Ironically, both Mulayam and Mayawati are opposed to FDI in Retail and vowed not to allow it in Uttar Pradesh. They spoke against it during the debate, but did opposite when it comes to voting on the motion. They did not go with the Opposition, giving a massive jolt to anti-Congress forces and giving much-needed breather to the ruling party.

Maya and Mulayam are least bothered about what Opposition parties say. They know their base is more or less limited to Uttar Pradesh. They don’t have much stake in other states. Since FDI is not coming to Uttar Pradesh, they don’t have to answer to their people. So, they chose to do what they felt was right. The UPA survived the acid test. The Congress emerged as the biggest gainer, as it got BSP in its fold, if not Mulayam completely.
