It has now become a habit of many politicians, including Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal to level allegations and then run away, which is known as ‘spit and run’ politics. But, the Supreme Court’s observation in ‘Rahul vs RSS’ case will serve as an eye-opener for the entire political class.
The Supreme Court took strong exception to Rahul Gandhi’s allegations that ‘RSS killed Gandhi’, asking him either to apologise or face trial. Well, the political compulsion will force Rahul not to apologise and fight a losing battle with the help of his battery of lawyers, including Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. But, the message is loud and clear.
As observed by the Supreme Court, it was unfair on the part of Rahul Gandhi to blame an entire organisation without any evidences. The political parties and their leaders must exercise restraint while speaking on public platforms. They must weigh their words and statements carefully before they speak if they take the judiciary seriously.
