Spot-Fixing: Sreesanth, 18 Others get Bail

In a major setback to the Delhi Police, a trial court rebuked it for invoking MCOCA on the accused in spot-fixing scandal without substantial evidences against them and granted bail to S Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and 17 others. “There is no reason to believe that the accused are guilty under the Maharashtra of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) at this stage, ruled the court.

SreesanthThe court further observed that there is no sufficient proof to see a nexus between the cricketers with the crime syndicate. The court came down heavily on Delhi Police for a shoddy probe into the spot-fixing allegations.

While Sreesanth, Chavan and 17 others, including 14 bookies were granted the bail, seven others, including Ajit Chandila are still in judicial custody. They haven’t yet applied for bail. The court asked the Delhi Police to provide strong and direct evidences against the accused if it wants to invoke a stringent law like MCOCA on all accused, including Sreesanth.
