TNI Bureau: Congress President Sonia Gandhi has inaugurated the Rail Coach Factory in Rae Bareli today. The factory is being built at the cost of Rs 2,500 crore. The project was delayed for years and was materialised soon after a Congress leader took over the Railways after a decade.
While inaugurating the project, Sonia Gandhi said that the farmers whose land was acquired for the project, will get the jobs with the Railways along with compensation. She handed out appointment letters to the farmers too. Over 1,400 farmers will be offered jobs.
The factory will start rolling out coaches from 2013. It is expected to create 3,000 new jobs. While Railway Minister Pawan Bansal supported Sonia Gandhi’s initiative, MoS Railways, Adhir Ranjan Choundury remains evasive. He had opposed this jobs-for-land policy during Mamata Banerjee’s tenure as the Railway Minister.
