After watching ‘Sona Spa’ one can certainly say – as a theatre artist and as an film actor Makrant Deshpande is quiet good, but as a director he should think of some other career. The present sci-fi though presents a good conception, the story telling by its director Deshpande lacks a lot.
Interestingly, the paid sleeper will not only sleep for you, but he will also be eligible to see your dream, that you would have seen if you yourself would have slept.
But in the film girls like Rucha and Ritu are ready to sleep for their clients and the sona spa is run by a baba, played by none other than Nassiruddin Shah, the veteran bollywood actor.
The spa charges Rs 2,500 an hour to make the girls sleep for you, when you can enjoy the time with freshness.
Review and findings – the moral is genuine. Story idea is innovative and great but execution is totally messed up. Director Makrand Deshpande fails on all counts as this ambitious venture falls flat.
The story even does not necessarily clarify many assumptions offered in the film. One of the sleep workers herself is confused about the potential of the process.
Among the actors, Nivedita Bhattacharya merits mention for a remarkable performance as a poetic prostitute-turned-sleep worker.
Yet, at the top of everything the conception of exposing how lack of sleep can be the root cause of troubles is commendable.
Verdict – If only you want to waste your money and time you should visit the theatre for ‘Sona Spa’.
