TNI Bureau: In a big development, External Affairs Minister SM Krishna resigned ahead of the Cabinet reshuffle, which is scheduled to take place on October 28. He is believed to have sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the afternoon
Krishna’s resignation came amidst the speculation that he would be dropped in the proposed reshuffle as a special Lokayukta court ordered a probe into his involvement in alleged Mysore-Bangalore Express Highway scam.
Krishna is likely to get an important post in the Karnataka unit of the Congress party. However, his move came as a surprise. He offered to resign when Spanish king Juan Carlos I has visited India.
Even there was speculation that he wanted to step down after he landed in several controversies and he was indicted in a Lokayukta report on his England tour to watch tennis matches at Wimbledon.
