TNI Bureau: In the developing countries like India, sleep disorders and Sleep-related problems are on rise – suggested a pan-African and Asian study on sleep-problem. The study offered that nearly 5% Indians aged 50 years and above is suffering from sleep disorders.
Researchers from the University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, the INDEPTH Network in Ghana and the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa performed the research and found that around 150 million adults in the countries constituting the development world suffer from sleep-related problems.
The study also revealed that even the rural Indians are not getting good enough sleep. The study offered the statistics that while 6.5% of the Indian women are not getting proper sleep, about 4.3 % of the male members have sleep disorders. The most probable reason they found for the same is psychiatric conditions like depression and anxiety.
Around 4% Indian men who reported extreme night-time sleep problems suffered from rigorous depression, while 3% reported severe anxiety. In case of women also similar figures were seen as the 3.79% women reported severe depression and 2.8% reported severe anxiety.
The researchers evaluated 24,434 women and 19,501 men, aged 50 years and above in eight rural global locations like Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Indonesia and Kenya and found the result.
