Sizzling Actress Rekha turns 58 Today

TNI Bureau: Bollywood’s most talented actress Rekha has turned 58 today. The veteran has acted in more than 180 films in a career spanning over 40 years. Rekha, who had been ruling the industry more than a decade, was most discussed actress for her relation with Amitabh Bachchan besides her acting.

Bhanurekha Ganesan, who is popularly known as Rekha, is one of the finest actresses, Hindi cinema has ever witnessed. During her early years of career in Bollywood Rekha though had not grabbed much attention, in 1970 she undertook a physical transformation and then featured as a sex symbol in the Indian media.

Most of Rekha’s films are women-centric films. She has done both the mainstream cinema and art films. She has won three Filmfare Awards, two for Best Actress and one for Best Supporting Actress, for her roles in Khubsoorat (1980), Khoon Bhari Maang (1988) and Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi (1996), respectively. Her portrayal of a classical courtesan in Umrao Jaan (1981) won her the National Film Award for Best Actress.

Rekha’s love story with Amitabh has remained as an enigma for many. Both of them have done several films acting opposite each other. These are – Do Anjane, Khoon Pasina, Muqaddar ka Sikander, Mr. Natwarlal, Silsila and Suhag. In all these films the duo’s chemistry was outstanding, perhaps for their love (in heart).

Though the rumour of their affair has created several buzz in the B-town as Amitabh Bachchan’s sizzling love affair, the couple never admitted it publicly. And because the love story is forbidden, it is much celebrated.
