Former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has been removed as the Congress Spokesperson for praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi and joining his ‘Swachh Bharat Campaign’. The Kerala Congress had earlier sought strong action against him, saying he brought embarrassment to the party. The Kerala Congress has welcomed the latest development.
The Congress Party had earlier on October 6, asked Tharoor to stop eulogising Modi and tread the party line. Thraroor had praised many populist schemes launched by Narendra Modi on a few occasions. The PM had invited nine leading personalities to accept his ‘Clean India’ invitation. And, Tharoor was one of them.
Even though Tharoor clarified many times that he supports only some of Modi’s programmes, and not his ideology, the Congress Party did not take it kindly. Congress President Sonia Gandhi finally decided to crack the whip and remove him from the party post.
