At least eight blasts in quick succession between 5:30 AM and 6 AM rocked the historic Mahabodhi ere Temple in Bodhgaya in Bihar, leaving five people, including two tourists injured. A Tibetan monk and a monk from Myanmar are among the injured. One of them is critical. Around 200 people were present inside the temple premises when the blasts took place.
The CRPF has taken control of the Mahabodhi Temple and evacuated the trapped prople. Two live bombs were also recovered from the temple premises. A security lapse has been attributed to the serial blasts, as an IB alert was issued about a possible attack on the Mahabodhi Temple earlier.
Since the blasts were of low intensity, there were no high casualties. Role of the Indian Mujahideen in these blasts has been under the scanner. The Bihar DIG is rushing to Bodhgaya to take stock of the situation. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is also likely to visit Bodhgaya shortly. The NIA team will arrive there soon to investigate the blasts.
