SC fixes Compensation for Acid Attack Victims

The Supreme Court has come up with strong measures to curb the rising incidents of acid attacks on young women and asked the Centre, States and Union Territories to make this offence non-bailable.

In addition, the apex court has fixed the compensation for all acid attack victims at Rs 3 lakh. Out of that, Rs 1 lakh will be paid within 15 days. The respective state will bear those expenses.

The court asked the states to frame rules within three months to regulate retail sale of acid and other corrosive substances. For bulk purchase of acid, SDM’s permission will be necessary. No sale of acid will be allowed without ID and Address proof.
