TNI Bureau: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar silenced his critics with a fine knock of 76, as India ended Day 1 of the third test match in Kolkata at 273/7. Sachin failed to score a century, but showed everyone that he is still capable of scoring runs.
Earlier, India won the toss and elected to bat first. Sehwag and Gambhir started well, but after Sehwag’s unnecessary run-out, things tilted in favour of England. Sehwag was out for 23, while Pujara fell to Paneswar for just 16.
Gautam Gambhir batted well and scored 60. Virat Kohli yet again disappointed. He scored just 6. Yuvraj Sing made 32, while Ashwin scored 21. Tendulkar was the top scorer with 76. Skipper Dhoni is batting on 32.
For England, James Anderson took three wickets, while Monty Panesar took two wickets.
