Sachin says NO to Government Bungalow in New Delhi

TNI Bureau: Master blaster Sachin Tendulkar set an example for others as he said no to the government bungalow, which was allotted to him after he was sowrn-in as the Rajya Sabha MP.

Sachin decided not to take the government house as he does not want to waste tax payers’ money. He refused to take the possession of 5, Tughlaq lane, which was allotted to him in New Delhi.

Speaking to the CNN-IBN on Saturday, Sachin said that he is against taking the government bungalow. “I am not keen on staying in any government bungalow when I will be in Delhi for only a few days. I feel this would be a waste of tax payers’ money and it would be better if the bungalow is allotted to someone else who needs the bungalow more than me”, he said.

The cricketer preferred to stay in a hotel when he will come to Delhi. For him, nomination to Rajya Sabha is an honour and that matters more than the perks and privileges offered by the government.

Few days after Sachin took oath as the Rajya Sabha MP, he was allotted 5, Tughlaq lane for his stay in Delhi. The bungalow is just opposite Rahul Gandhi’s residence 12 Tughlak Lane.

The bungalow, a type VII accommodation, which is normally given to cabinet-rank ministers, Sachin was allotted to it. It is spread over 7000 sq feet. It has 5 bedrooms and big lawns.
