Security forces killed Maoist leader Pradeep alias Gobind Majhi in an encounter on Monday in Karanjadua jungle near Mohana under Gajapati district. He was the second leader of the Odisha Maoist Party (OMP) led by Sabyasachi Panda.
Security forces also seized arms and ammunition from the dense forest of Mohana area.
Majhi was the native of Karadapadar village under Guradi police station in Rayagada district. He was involved in a series of violence including R.Udayagiri attack, Nayagarh attack, Laxmananand Saraswati killing and Italian kidnapping. A total of 42 cases were pending against him. He was the proposed commander of Sabyasachi Panda’s Bansdhara Divisional Committee.
Last year, Sabyasachi Panda’s five aides were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bhaliagada jungle under Mohana area.
