Amidst high tensions between the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the role of IB’s Gujarat chief Rajendra Kumar in connection with Ishrat Jehan encounter case, leading TV channel Headlines Today has come up with startling revelations that put a question mark over the way CBI functions.
The TV channel also claimed that LK Advani, Ashok Singhal, Praveen Togadia, Bal Thackeray and Narendra Modi were in the hitlist of the LeT terrorists in 2004. Based on the inputs given by the IB, Gujarat Police intercepted the car where Ishrat Jehan and three of her accomplices were travelling and killed them in the encounter. The incident occurred on June 15, 2004.
The very next day of the encounter, the LeT website hailed Ishrat as their cadre and accused the Indian police of murdering her. However, they later withdrew the claim under mysterious circumstances. 26/11 accused David Coleman Headley too confirmed about Ishrat’s links with LeT in his testimony to the FBI. Headly revealed that Ishrat was a fidayeen.
For unknown reasons, the Congress-led UPA and the CBI are adamant on projecting Ishrat as an innocent girl. Whether the encounter was fake or not, is a different subject for discussion. But, there is little doubt about the background and intent of Ishrat Jehan and other people killed in the encounter.
It is being alleged that the issue was raked up in order to curb Modi’s political ambitions and give the entire incident a political and religious colour. With 2014 elections coming closer, politicians will be engaged in dirty tricks and strategies, thus making the poll battle the ugliest one.
