As the Cyclone Hudhud left Odisha at around 10:30 PM last night after causing minor damage, the government has swung into action to begin the restoration work in South Odisha districts on a war footing. According to Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), Sri Pradipta Mohapatra, about 2,33,000 people were evacuated and many of them can return home from the shelter houses by afternoon today.

The cyclone has weakened and moved towards Chhattisgarh. It left a trail of destruction in Pottangi, Bandhugaon, Narayanpatna, Mathili and Nandpur areas. Many hutments were damaged and trees and electric poles were uprooted. The administration is trying its best to restore power and communication services.

Cyclone Hudhud also triggered some destruction in various parts of Gajapati, Koraput and Malkangiri districts. Many roads have been blocked due to falling trees. Power services remained hit in rural areas. Mobile towers are also not fully functional. Heavy rains in some parts of South and Coastal Odisha may continue for another 24 hours or so. The government also ruled out any low pressure predictions in near future.

The government reports confirmed the death of three people due to Cyclone menace. However, unconfirmed reports put the toll at 7-8.
