Ranapur Anganwadi Death: HC orders Compensation for Victims

TNI Bureau: In a significant verdict, Orissa High Court on Tuesday ordered compensation for the kins of all the victims died in Ranapur Anganwadi wall collapse in July this year. The court directed the state government to pay Rs 5 lakh to victims’ families in four weeks.

If the victims’ families will not get compensation on time, the government was directed to give them amount at 6% interest. The court made it clear that the government will bear all the medical expenses of injured. The court also directed the government to take action against the accused.

Five students were crushed to death and nine others, including three adults, were injured when the wall of an anganwadi centre collapsed at Ranpur in Nayagarh district on July 9. Later, 2 injured kids died in hospital.

The incident took place when children were having midday meal in their classroom at around 11 am at the anganwadi centre on the Nelia Upper Primary School campus at Suansia Sahi. The brick collapsed, killing three on the spot.
