Rain plays Havoc in South Odisha

Heavy rains, triggered by a low pressure in the Bay of Bengal, left a huge trail of damage in South Odisha districts, including Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati and Nabarangpur. Kalahandi in Western Odisha are also worst-affected.

Around 1,000 houses were damaged in the rains and floods. A lot of damage has been made to the rabi crop. The vehicular traffic was disrupted on Bhubaneswar-Bhawanipatna route because of flood water of river Hati, which was flowing over a bridge at Junagarh.

Power generation at Upper Indravati Hydropower Station was stopped, but resumed now with the flood situation improving since yesterday. The vehicular traffic on Bhubaneswar-Rayagada, Bhubaneswar-Bhawanipatna and Koraput-Nabarangpur have been resumed.

The Odisha government has directed the District Collectors of Koraput, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam and Gajapti to assess the damage and submit a report to the Revenue Department in order to get compensation for the affected farmers and common people.
