Quota Politics: Andhra Pradesh HC sets Right Precedent

Date:

TNI Bureau: Today’s historic judgment delivered by the Andhra Pradesh High Court has not only set the right precedent, but also sought to end politics over the quota system in the country.

The Andhra Pradesh High Court quashed the 4.5% sub-quota for the minorities, which was carved out of the 27% OBC quota by the centre. The verdict may have a big impact on the admissions made in some central educational institutions, including the IITs.

The High Court noted that the sub-quota was based on religious grounds and not on any other consideration. The court termed the 4.5% sub-quota as “Unconstitutional”.

The verdict should serve as an eye opener to the political parties that play with the emotion of the minorities and play politics on the basis of religious consideration.
