Power Employees call off Strike in Seemandhra

In a major relief to people in Andhra Pradesh, who were languishing without power for the last five days, the electricity employees have called off their strike after talks with the government today.

power-tariffThe power employees will resume work from 6 AM tomorrow, bringing and end to five-day-long strike that brought the normal life into a complete halt. Train, Air, Banking, ATM, Industrial Production, Medical and many other services were worst-hit by the power strike.

Power services in all 13 districts of Seemandhra region, had collapsed in the last few days, bringing severe hardship to common people. After a fresh round of talks between the leaders of striking employees and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, the agitating employees relented.

Over 30,000 electricity employees had participated in the strike, affecting 4,000 megawatt power at all thermal and hydel power plants in Seemandhra. The employees were protesting against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
