In a landmark ruling given by the Central Information Commission (CIC) today, all the political parties will now come under the purview of the Right to Information Act.
The order can put the political organisations in trouble as they will have to show the details about their funding and expenditure if the information can be sought by any citizen of India.
The decision came in response to a number of petitions filed by senior advocate Prashant Bhushan and RTI activist Subhasg Aggarwal. They sought political parties should be covered under RTI. The citizens should have right to know the funding and expenditure of the political groups those are fielding candidates for the elections.
