Out of Rs 745 crore, Rs 570 crore will be spent on rebuilding homes in Jammu & Kashmir, while Rs 175 crore will be dedicated to renovation of six major hospitals in the valley, which were worst affected by the floods. Modi also announced that free books and notebooks would be provided to thousands of schoolchildren.
Besides holding talks with the J&K Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the PM held talks with delegations from National Conference, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and BJP. The Congress had boycotted the PM’s visit.
The leaders of associations of Fruit & Grain Merchants, Hoteliers, Houseboat Owners, Shikarawalas, Motor Drivers, NGOs, Kashmiri Pandits and Sikh Groups too met the Prime Ministers and discussed various issues with him. Several other villagers were also secretly ferried to Raj Bhavan to meet the PM. But, their identity was kept secret due to security concerns.
