By Himanshu Guru: Pinterest, the pinboard-style social photo sharing website is the latest buzz on web. Clean and simple to use, it serves as an online scrapbook of images on the network. Right from fashion to recipe and decoration to collection, anything can be posted in this social networking site, for which online users across the board have opted Pinterest and passion for the site is growing day by day in a very fast rate.
Especially women are seen to be more attracted towards Pinterest. The above research also provided that approximately 60 % of the online conversations about Pinterest were conducted by women while rest 40 % was by men. The research also found that most Pinterest users use this platform to find and share recipes, decorating and event ideas among other subjects, which in some way confirms that the site is mostly liked by women.
Secondly, Pinterest has seen Rapid growth and surpassed all other sites in lieu of visits.
Since its birth in March 2010, merely within two years, the site has achieved to gain a record number of traffic. Comscore, the well known Internet analytics company says that Pinterest is the only site to receive 10 million unique visitors within just two years.
Apart from Comscore, some other world’s popular institutions have also provided positive credentials to Pinterest. They are – in August 2011, Time magazine listed Pinterest among the top 50 websites. In December 2011, Techcrunch named Pinterest as the best new startup.
Also while Experian Hitwise ranked Pinterest among the top 10 social networks,
Referral Traffic report declared that the site generated more referral traffic than GooglePlus, Linkedin and Youtube. Digital Marketer report ranked Pinterest as the 3rd most popular social network, only after Facebook and Twitter.
Thirdly, one doesn’t need to be an expert surfer to explore Pinterest, which means that the site is for everyone. Just he needs to register himself and then it would allow him to enter to the vast world of Pinterest to pin images and videos as per his choice. Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann calls his site a virtual ‘PINboard’.
Fourthly, Pinterest does not earn any revenue for now. Earlier this year there were rumors that Pinterest infringing copyrighted images to earn secretly, but this probability was soon clarified by the company saying – the company is still in the process of finding a proper model to generate revenue and nothing is yet finalized.
Interestingly, there’s no share feature within Pinterest but one can share his pins in Facebook and Twitter. Also, one can very well upload images from a local system to his Pinterest account. No doubt Pinterest is the latest buzz in social media.
