TNI Bureau: In a startling revelation made by Pakistan Army Colonel (retd) Ashfaq Hussain that former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf had crossed the Line of Control and spent a night on the Indian-controlled side in the terrorist camp in 1999.
Ashfaq Hussain blamed Musharraf for the conflict between India and Pakistan and the Kargil war. He revealed the fact in his book ‘Witness to Blunder’ saying that the Kargil war was masterminded by Major General Javed Hassan, General Mehmood and General Aziz.
Musharraf had also given his consent to their plan that later led to Kargil war.
Hussain claimed that Musharraf had crossed 11 kms beyond the LoC on a helicopter and was present in the terrorists’ camp on Indian side of the border on March 28, 1999. General Mushrraf was escorted by Colonel Amjad Shabbir at Zakriya Mustakar location.
The Kargil operation was carried out on December 18, 1998, when Captain Nadeem, Captain Ali and Hawaldaar Lalak Jaan crossed the LoC.
On the other hand, another former Army officer, Lt Gen (retired) Shahid Aziz, who headed the analysis wing of the ISI during the Kargil conflict, revealed that the operation was masterminded by a group of four generals including Musharraf.
In response to the allegations, Musharraf said that 1999 Kargil operation was a big success militarily operation. He said that if the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif had not visited the US, the Pakistani Army would have conquered 300 square miles of India.
