TNI Bureau: Amidst clashes and protests outside the Rohini court on Tuesday, former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and his son Ajay Chautala were sentenced to 10 years in jail. Minutes after the hearing, violent clashes erupted outside the court premises.
Thousands of Chautala’s supporters broke the barricades and police resorted to lathicharge and used batons and teargas shells to prevent them from entering the court.
The protesters were seen pelting stones at police out of anger.
The proceedings of the court were also affected due to the clashes that erupted after the supporters of Chautala protested and attacked police ahead of the sentencing of Chautala and his son Ajay. The lawyers were not able to reach the court as the police had blocked all the roads to the court.
Om Prakash Chautala, his son Ajay Chautala and 53 others were found guilty on January 16 of illegally recruiting 3,206 junior basic trained (JBT) teachers in the state in 2000.
According to PTI reports, Chautala’s supporters threw crude bombs inside the court premises.
