TNI Bureau: The State-Government run Odisha State Co-operative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd’s (Omfed) hiked milk price by Rs 2 per litre, which will come into effect from February 4. The enhanced price will put an extra burden on the common men, who are already facing problems after the price hike of LPG, diesel and essential commodities.
The authorities said that the hike was essential and it would benefit the dairy farmers who had been demanding the price hike. The milkmen, who were paid Rs 18.50, will get Rs 20.50 after hike effective.
General Secretary of Odisha Dairy Farmers Association Pradip Behera justified the price hike saying, the milk farmers should be paid at least Rs 25 per litre. Earlier, the OMFED had raised milk price in November 2012 by Rs 1 per litre.
