Odisha Rice Millers Announce Indefinite Strike from June 8

Date:

TNI Bureau: The All Odisha Rice Millers Association (AORMA) has announced an indefinite statewide strike from June 8, 2026, citing the Government’s failure to fulfil several long-pending commitments and resolve key operational issues despite repeated representations and assurances.

As part of the strike, rice mills across Odisha will stop lifting paddy from Mandis and procurement centres and will also suspend the delivery of Custom Milled Rice (CMR) to RRCs and FCI depots.

The Association stated that it has extended full cooperation to the Government over the years and exercised patience in the larger interest of farmers and the Public Distribution System. However, the continued neglect of its genuine and agreed demands has left the rice milling industry with no option but to resort to agitation.AORMA said the strike will continue until the Government addresses the pending issues and arrives at a concrete resolution. The Association, however, expressed its willingness to engage in constructive dialogue and urged the Government to take immediate steps to restore normal operations in the interest of all stakeholders.
