NSPCL in Rourkela to have 250 MW Expansion Project

Rourkela (By Aurobindo Das): A public Hearing Meeting for obtaining Environmental clearance for the proposed 250 MW expansion of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited (NSPCL) is held successfully at Udit Nagar Parade Ground here under the chairmanship of R N Mishra, ADM, Rourkela.

The meeting was attended by Niranjan Mallick, Regional Officer, State Pollution Control Board and a large number of bonafide residents of the neighbourhood, environmental groups, local representatives, media representatives, lawyers, students and social activists.

Speaking on behalf of NSPCL, Shri J K Dalai, DGM (TS) informed the gathering that the Rs 2000-cr expansion project, well within its existing land inside RSP, would be a ‘Zero-Discharge’ plant using modern and state-of-the art technology. Beside erection of another 220 mtrs chimney, it would feature construction of Rs 400-cr Electro-static Precipitator (ESP) and 150-cr Dry Ash Extraction & Transportation Plant (DAETP) for very efficient Environmental & Ash Management.

ADM, Shri Mishra welcomed the gathering and invited their valued suggestions, views, comments and objections, if any, relevant to the proposed expansion of 250 MW by NSPCL. Most of the speakers very much welcomed the move of NSPCL going for 250 MW capacity addition keeping in view the post-modernisation power requirement of Rourkela Steel Plant as well as increasing power demands of the Steel City and its surroundings. Finally Mishra declared the public hearing is successful.

It is worth mentioning that NSPCL is a 50:50 Joint Venture between two Maharatnas- NTPC & SAIL. At Rourkela, it owns and operates the 120 MW Captive Power Plant-II and supplies the bulk of power to Rourkela Steel Plant.
