Noted Littérateur Sunil Gangopadhyay dies at 78

TNI Bureau: Renowned Bengali littérateur Sunil Gangopadhyay dies at the age of 78. He was suffering from several ailments for a long time. The writer suffered a massive cardiac arrest in the wee hours today and breathed his last at his residence in Kolkata. He is survived by his wife and son.

Sunil Gangopadhyay has authored around 200 books and won Sahitya Akademi Award (1985), Ananda Puraskar (1989) and The Hindu Literary Prize (2011). He was the President of Sahitya Akademi.

He was also the Founder-Editor of ‘Krittibas’, a seminal poetry magazine, which provided a great platform to the budding poets. Sunil used pen-names Nil Lohit, Sanatan Pathak and Nil Upadhyay in literature.
