TNI Bureau: Amidst a series of protests and threats, a team of ICC and BCCI official visited Odisha yesterday to take stock of the preparations for the Women’s World Cup 2013. They did not visit the Barabati Stadium and DRIEMS Ground in Tangi for security reasons, but met the OCA officials and DGP.
The ICC decided to organise all matches of the Pakistan Women’s team in Cuttack only, while other matches were allowed to be held at DRIEMS. It was also decided that tickets won’t be sold for the Women’s World Cup in Odisha. Only people, who get the passes from OCA and its affiliated groups would get a chance to watch the matches.
The decision was taken to prevent any untoward incidents during the matches, as BJP, Utkal Bharat, Kalinga Sena and Bajrang Dal have threatened to disrupt the matches and not to allow Pakistani team to play in Odisha. The DGP has assured full security to all teams and matches. It is not yet known in which hotel the Pakistani team would stay.
