By Aurobinda Das: The National Fire Services Day was celebrated at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) on Sunday at the Central Fire Station. G S Prasad, CEO, RSP hoisted the Fire Services Flag and inspected a Guard of honour. He along with other dignitaries laid wreaths on the martyrs’ memorial to commemorate the sacrifice of sixty-six gallant-fighters who had sacrificed their lives to save the lives of the people and the properties during a devastating fire incident that took place at the Victoria Dock of erstwhile Bombay Port in the year 1944.
In his address, Mr. Prasad elaborated on the theme chosen for this year i.e. “Fire is Fire -Friend or Foe, We Decide”. This is a very topical and relevant theme especially for a thermo-sensitive process industry like RSP.
“Obviously, we are doing our best to keep fire as our friend. This is although more important as we have embarked upon a massive modernisation and expansion project,” he added.
The CEO also exhorted the employees to adhere to the Standard Operating Practice and Standard Maintenance Practice as well as keeping the surrounding clean and having good housekeeping so as to eliminate and fire hazard.
Mr. Prasad also released a booklet about Fire awareness and fire prevention and conferred prizes to the winners of different competitions organized by the Fire Service Department as part of celebrations amongst students and employees.
